Inclusive Marketing Advisor (Full-time, Abuja, Nigeria)

The role 

Bopinc is looking for an experienced inclusive marketing advisor to work on our M Ventures program, focused on providing business support to menstrual health and hygiene enterprises. The program aims to expand product choice and market access to reusable- and more sustainable single-use menstrual products, such as those made with biodegradable, compostable, or reduced-plastic materials for women and girls in East and West Africa. In your role, you will manage the technical assistance workstream in Nigeria, where enterprises will receive business advisory on topics such as financial models, product innovation, marketing and distribution, while also directly delivering technical assistance to some of the companies.   

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage the technical assistance workstream, including company needs assessments, proposal writing, relationship management, implementation monitoring and hosting workshops/learning sessions.

  • Provide business advisory to SMEs on topics such as product innovation, marketing, distribution and/or financial models, amongst others.

  • Contribute to donor reports by providing high-quality input.

  • Scope for new market opportunities and innovations that enterprises can tap into and proactively engage potential partners. 

  • Participate in Bopinc’s internal learning sessions, sharing project learnings with the global team.

Required Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for someone with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor or (preferably) Masters degree in Business, Marketing, Gender Studies, Product Design, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 7 years professional experience in sales, marketing, distribution, business model development for low-income consumers in Nigeria, as well as for project management. Showcase a track record in developing and successfully managing project plans, deliverables, timelines, budget, teams, external partners and risks. 

  • Demonstrated track record showing direct contributions to the growth of enterprises through advisory support, working with diverse stakeholders (e.g., business leaders, entrepreneurs, and/or managers, low-income women, and international donors), and experience working on a sensitive topic such as menstrual health.

  • Solid understanding of marketing and distribution strategies for low-income markets, including the ability to develop and execute strategies for new market entry and product launches that resonate authentically with BoP audiences. 

  • Strong analytical skills, ability to diagnose business problems related to marketing and distribution in low-income markets, taking into account the business, cultural, technological and market context and constraints, analyse results from lean innovation experiments and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Knowledge and first-hand experience in leading women-centered design approaches, and understands and can apply ethical principles in designing marketing and distribution strategies for low-income segments. Solid understanding of key terms and concepts related to gender and the ability to use them to create inclusive business models, including unconscious bias, systemic bias, discrimination, and inequalities that impact women. 

  • Solid understanding of sales and distribution dynamics, including channel relationships (i.e. e-commerce, retail, agent networks), pricing structures, inventory, and financial management. 

  • Can lead workshops, training sessions, or discussions with senior-level stakeholders on marketing and distribution topics.

  • Excellent communication in English, both written and verbal, including the ability to write clear, concise, and structured reports/proposals and facilitate workshops, present to clients and external audiences, and influence others. The ability to speak other regional languages is a plus. 

  • Ability and willingness to regularly travel to areas outside Abuja and Nigeria.

Starting Salary : Monthly gross salary starts at N2,172,879 and is determined based on years of relevant experience

Hours : 40 hours per week 

Reporting To : Country Director - Based in Nigeria 

Term : Fixed-term contract of 1-year (including a 3 months probationary period)
