Part-time · Global

About the job

The Supervisory Board supervises and advises the Management Board, acts as its employer, and ensures that Bopinc adheres to high standards of integrity, accountability, and effectiveness. Members operate independently, bring diverse perspectives, and act as sparring partners to management while safeguarding the foundation’s mission.

About Bopinc

Bopinc is a social enterprise that accelerates the impact of market-driven and innovative business models in low-income markets. We support our clients in making their businesses more inclusive and viable by including people at the Base of the Pyramid as consumers, producers and entrepreneurs in the supply chain.

Bopinc works with a wide variety of start-ups, SMEs and multinational companies to achieve this. Over the past ten years we have worked with more than 1,000 companies, reaching more than 5 million low-income consumers, while creating better income opportunities for over 110,000 low-income entrepreneurs.

Bopinc has a two-tier board structure, consisting of a Management Board and a Supervisory Board governed by Dutch law. The Supervisory Board plays a crucial role in overseeing Bopinc’s mission, strategy, and governance.

 To complement the Supervisory Board, Bopinc is seeking a new member with extensive knowledge of inclusive business in Asia and/or Africa. The Board would particularly benefit from candidates who can bring expertise in:

  • Business experience in or with low-income countries in Africa and/or Asia;

  • Understanding of growing a foundation or social enterprise into multiple emerging markets with decentralized operations;

  • Experience with organizational, financial, cultural, and risk challenges of such growth;

  • Working with a broad range of stakeholders (public and private) and having a strong global network;

  • Knowledge of donor, development finance institution (DFI), corporate, or foundation funding in emerging markets.

  • Expertise in innovation, including digital/AI, in low-income countries is a strong plus

Each Supervisory Board member must demonstrate:

  • Independence, integrity, and the ability to act constructively and critically without conflicts of interest;

  • Commitment to Bopinc’s mission and values, with sensitivity to social and cultural contexts;

  • Courage, critical thinking, and the ability to challenge groupthink and proposed decisions;

  • High-level interpersonal, networking, and bridge-building skills;

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken);

  • Previous experience in a supervisory board role is considered helpful.

What we offer

  • A meaningful, non-executive position with global impact.

  • Approximately 10 days per year time commitment (including SB meetings in Utrecht or online and attendance of a bi-annual team week).

  • An inclusive and stimulating environment with motivated, multidisciplinary colleagues.

  • Given Bopinc’s not-for-profit nature, financial remuneration is limited, but the role offers significant intrinsic rewards through impact and learning.

Diversity and Inclusion

Bopinc strives for a Supervisory Board that is diverse in gender, age, expertise, and cultural background. We warmly encourage candidates from underrepresented backgrounds to apply.
